The Drill Team is a marching unit that performs routines based on military drill. Through practice, the team perfects their proficiency and then competes against other JROTC programs. These competitions are generally called "drill meets", and are held all across the state of Virginia and potentially across the nation. The Drill Team is a Varsity Level competition team. As with every co-curricular team that competes outside of school, the Drill Team is a direct reflection of Smithfield High School and the Corps of Cadets. Fielding the most competitive team within JROTC policies and standards will be the primary goal. Cadets interested in trying out for the drill team must be an active cadet enrolled in JROTC for the competition school year. The team practices after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3pm - 4:30pm, and Thursdays 3pm-4pm.
